Japanese outboard manufacturer Tohatsu
was the first company to recognise the need for a range of mid-size
2-stroke direct injection (DI) engines. Their first model to feature
Orbital's direct injection technology was the Tohatsu MD50A, the
smallest DI outboard in the world. This release was followed by
40hp, 70hp and 90hp engines boasting similar benefits.
The engines branded as Tohatsu TLDI,
or "Two-stroke Low-pressure Direct Injection", offer superior
power-to-weight ratio that only a 2-stroke can provide with all
the advantages of low fuel consumption; virtually no smoke and super
smooth idle. All TLDI engines meet USA EPA 2006 standards.
