MERCURY MARINE LAUNCHES
OPTIMAX JET 80 AND 110 OUTBOARDS
Mercury Marine has announced the launch of
the OptiMax Jet 80 and OptiMax Jet 110 outboard engines, perfect
for shallow-water boating applications.
With no gear case or propeller extending below
the hull, the OptiMax Jet outboards can pass over obstructions that
could limit a conventional propeller-driven outboard. The jet drive
unit also offers inherent safety features for outboards used for
community service work such as on beach rescues where there are
potential propeller based safety issues.
According to Mercury Marine, these new two-stroke
Direct Injected OptiMax products feature an excellent power-to-weight
ratio compared to competitive four-stroke jet drive outboards in
their class, which make them ideal for shallow-water running conditions
typical in jet applications.
The Optimax Jet 80 and 110 outboards are based
on the well proven 1.5L 115 Hp OptiMax and the 2.5 L 150 Hp Optimax
outboards respectively, retaining the stringent emission capability
and excellent fuel efficiency of the OptiMax outboard families.
The OptiMax outboard families, using Orbital's
combustion system incorporating direct in cylinder fuel injection
systems supplied by Synerject, Orbital's 50:50 JV partnership with
Continental, have been in production since 1996.
