UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA
MOTORSPORT TEAM WIN THE 2007 SAE - AUSTRALASIA FORMULA SAE COMPETITION
The University of Western Australia Motorsport
(UWAM) team was the overall winner in the SAE-Australasia Formula
SAE competition held last week at Victoria University.
Orbital has been a platinum sponsor of the
UWAM team for the last 4 years, providing technical support and
training as well as access to Orbital's state of the art automotive
testing and development facilities to assist the UWAM team.

The successful 2007 UWAM
team
The competition attracted entrants from most
major Australian Universities as well as entrants from Japan, New
Zealand and Germany.
The formula SAE-A entrants have the challenge
to build a prototype autocross car, for a projected production cost
of less than $50,000 Australian Dollars. The vehicles are then assessed
across 8 categories ranging from design to cost and performance
with points then totalled.
The UWAM team achieved 895.6 out of a possible
1000 points to win the overall competition, with maximum points
in the Autocross Event, and were second in the Skid Pan, Endurance,
Acceleration and Cost Events.
The UWAM activities are excellent training
and practical 'hands-on' experience for engineering students, and
an increasing number of Orbital's recent graduate employees have
come from these programs.
