MERCURY MARINE LAUNCHES TWO NEW
FUEL-EFFICIENT OPTIMAX OUTBOARDS
Mercury Marine, the
largest USA outboard manufacturer, has announced details and the
launch of two new OptiMax outboards.
The two new outboards, the 175 Pro XS and the
250 hp, use the Orbital Air Assisted DI systems. They are reported
to match, and even surpass, the fuel economy of many of today's
4 stroke engines and use as much 45% less fuel for the same running
period as the previous carbureted engines. Both engines have been
certified for the California 3 Star emission standards which are
the most stringent standards for outboards today in the world.
These two new OptiMax outboard models will
become available later this year.
The OptiMax outboard series was first introduced
by Mercury Marine in 1996, and now covers a full range from 75 through
to 300 hp, including several special racing/high performance engines.
Synerject, Orbital's 50:50 JV with Siemens
VDO is a key supplier to Mercury for the OptiMax fuel injection
systems.
