MORE SUCCESS FOR THE UNIVERSITY
OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA MOTORSPORT TEAM IN NATIONAL FINALS
Orbital is a key sponsor of the University
of Western Australia Motorsport (UWAM) team in the Formula SAE competition.
Formula SAE is the brainchild of the Society
of Automotive Engineers International and is run primarily on the
basis of producing graduate students with real-life project experience.
It has been successfully run in the United States since 1981, in
Great Britain since 1998 and was held for the first time in Australasia
in 2000. The competition is for students to conceive, design, fabricate
and compete in a small formula-style racing car.
Orbital, has been a platinum sponsor of the
UWAM team for the last 3 years, providing technical support and
training as well as access to Orbital's state of the art automotive
testing and development facilities to assist the UWAM team.
The UWAM team has been very successful, being
the overall winner in the Australasian event and a 2nd overall in
the prestigious USA competition in 2005. During 2006, the UWAM vehicle
was a very close overall 2nd place to RMIT in the Australasia competition,
winning the Acceleration, Autocross and the coveted Design Award.
UWAM is now gearing up for the 2007 USA competition.
