ORBITAL UNDERTAKING NATIONAL
IN-SERVICE EMISSION STUDY
Orbital has recently been selected to complete
vehicle testing for the second National In-Service Emissions Study
(NISE2), as a follow-up to an earlier pilot study Orbital undertook
in 2004.

The objective of the testing is to establish
the emissions performance of a representative sample of light duty
vehicles in the Australian vehicle fleet by emissions testing carried
out at Orbital's R&D facility. The data collected will be used
to feed into Australia's emission inventory and further modelling
to assist policy development for vehicle emission and air quality
management.

For the NISE2 program, Orbital's Balcatta facility
will test over 300 vehicles during 2008, approximately 8-10 vehicles
per week. In this study, petrol vehicles will be tested, from passenger
to compact and large SUV's (sports utility vehicles) and also petrol
LCV's (light commercial vehicles - utes, vans). The age of the vehicles
ranges from 1994 model year to current.
