EUROPE MOTORCYCLE MARKET GROWTH
IN 2007
The European motorcycle/scooter
market achieved a 10% growth in 2007, according to recent reports
by ACEM, the European Motorcycle Industry Association, with sales
of just over 2.5 million.
After several years in decline, the 50 cc scooter
and moped market showed a positive trend, with almost 1 million
units sold, representing 40% of the market.
1.5 million units with displacement greater
than 50 cc were sold, an increase of around 3% compared to the previous
year.
The current European Motorcycle/scooter fleet
size is estimated to be approximately 30 million units, demonstrating
the important role 2 wheeled vehicles has within the European transport
infrastructure.
Europe is a leading country in the widespread
introduction of fuel injection systems for 2 wheeler vehicles in
order to meet the ever increasingly more stringent emission standards
and to also offer the customer much greater functionality and ease
of use compared to the carburetted models.
Synerject, Orbital's 50:50 JV partnership with
Continental, is a major supplier of Engine Management Systems (EMS)
providing fuel injection systems to global motorcycle manufacturers
for both 2- and 4-stroke scooters and motorcycles.
Sanyang Industry Co. Ltd. (SYM), a major Taiwanese
exporter of scooters to the European market, recently announced
a range of their fuel injected products now offered for the UK/European
market are using systems supplied by Synerject.
