ORBITAL SUPPORTS TOYOTA ON NEW
SUPERCHARGED TRD AURION
Melbourne, Australia: A Toyota Racing
Development (TRD) vehicle due for launch later this year, the Aurion,
featured at this years 2007 Melbourne International Motor
Show. Orbital Corporation co-developed the engine calibration at
its R&D facilities in Perth on the supercharged 3.5-litre dual
VVT-i V6 engine. Integration, testing and validation of components
were completed by TRD with technical assistance from Orbital.
Stephen Castles, TRD Chief Engineer, who managed
the program from TRDs Melbourne office, said "At the
planning stage of the TRD Aurion we analysed where best to spend
our development dollars to give the maximum benefit to the TRD customer.
"The work of Orbital Engine Company (Orbital
Corporation) in testing our engine modifications and working with
our calibration engineer to establish engine ECU mapping has been
critical to the success of this project. We see the collaboration
with key local suppliers as crucial to maintaining the Toyota DNA
of Quality, Durability and Reliability," said Mr Castles.
Highlighting a clear demonstration that Orbitals
business has grown beyond its core technology, Orbital Corporations
CEO Rod Houston said This cooperation over the past year with
Toyota is a good example of the expanded engineering capability
at Orbital and we look forward to continuing to add value in this
area for Toyota.
