ORBITAL PRESENTING PAPER AT APAC
2007
Orbital will be presenting
a paper at the 14th Asia Pacific Automotive Conference being held
in Los Angeles, August 5th to 8th 2007.
This high level conference is organised by
SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) and FISITA (International
Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies) with the overall
theme of the conference "Impacts & Opportunities for the
Global Automotive Industry". Some 290 papers will be presented.
The conference explores 5 key sectors relevant
to the current and future Asia Pacific Automotive needs:
- Powertrain Technology
- Driver/Vehicle Interface, Information &
Assistance Systems
- Vehicle Design and Manufacturing
- Transportation Challenges for Emerging Markets
- Vehicle Dynamics and Intelligent Control
Systems
Orbital's paper, titled "Initial Development
of a Turbo-charged Direct Injection E100 Combustion System"
presents Orbital's recent development work on direct injection of
100% ethanol fuels on a turbo-charged downsized engine.
Turbo-charging and downsizing is a powerful
way to improve the fuel economy of spark ignition engines and hence
reduce CO2 emissions, without sacrificing the power and driveability.
This approach to CO2 control is well supported in Europe which has
increasingly stringent CO2 control requirements, and where the cost
of fuel to the consumer is high.
The characteristics of E100 fuel allow a more
aggressive engine downsizing strategy, giving a more efficient approach
to the deployment of renewable fuels. Orbital's direct injection
systems are well suited to this application and enable the unique
benefits of E100 fuel to be fully exploited.
