Orbital are the developers of the FlexDITM combustion, fuel and engine management systems.
Firstly developed for the original "Orbital" engine back in the 1970 and early 1980's these technologies were then applied to initially 2 stroke engines, then 4 stroke engines.
Application of FlexDITM systems is an area that Orbital specialises in. Application covers a broad work spectrum from feasibility, to combustion chamber design and layout, to fuel system specification, to calibration and production release. Given today's highly functional vehicle, the FlexDITM systems not only have to integrate into the engine, but frequently into the overall vehicle powertrain.
Orbital has worked with most major auto and non-auto OE's in the application of the FlexDITM systems. Orbital's experience in the FlexDITM application offers the customer a cost effective and fast path to implement FlexDITM systems, often in conjunction with other emerging technologies such as VVT (Variable Valve Timing) and VVL (Variable Valve Lift).
